More people have been in space than have traveled to visit the Titanic, 4,000 metres under the Atlantic Ocean.

In the summer of 2000, Rory Golden was chosen to be the first Irishman to see the Titanic lying in state in her Atlantic grave. The journey, though exciting, was tinged with sadness and emotion.

Rory returned in 2005 and viewed the upper decks, Captain Smith’s Cabin and the crumbling main mast.

As Gary says himself, ‘It is something that will always be in my mind, and hopefully in the minds of the people I tell the story to.’

I have a 10 year old who loves anything Titanic. We have bought every book on the Titanic from Barnes and Noble. He cried when we read the article on the bacteria eating away at the metal. He's afraid he'll never get to see it. I hope when he's older his dream will come true.

To get me in that craft to dive to the Titanic, I would have to be sedated...
