In recent years a certain Titanic movie has become known as the great ships most impressive appearance on celluloid. As some, but not all of us, know, the film that inspired James Cameron and inspired an entire cinema-going public is arguably the finest Titanic movie ever made.

A Night To Remember was the brainchild and the passion of Belfast man William McQuitty, who wasn’t only linked to the ship by birthplace, he was also there to see her set sail on her maiden voyage.

From Belfast to Hollywood, William McQuitty’s eagerness and desire to tell the story of what really happened that night, is a true fable of earnest endeavour, and for many, his film will remain the greatest testament to the story of the Titanic ever to hit cinema screens.

One of the survivors, Alice McCoy stated that 'Nearer my God to Thee' was played as the ship sank.

I love that book - only seen the film once, though - but I do remember that although it's the most accurate film out there, there are some glaring errors in it. Even Walter Lord said that 'Nearer My God To Thee' was never played - it was more likely to be 'Autumn'. But NMGTT is more likely to be known by a more modern-day audience. McQuitty also vilifyed Stanley Lord - whereas Walter Lord didn't. I can't remember how McQuitty portrayed Ismay, though.
