Titanic Facts

There is a world of Titanic facts at your disposal. The Titanic is one of the most fascinating and enduring stories of all time. What is it which makes Titanic such a subject of fascination for so many people around the world? Perhaps it is the very nature of the story itself. The world’s largest ship, on its maiden voyage and carrying some of the world’s richest people has a freak accident on her maiden voyage with a catastrophic loss of life.

Loss of Life

Hundreds of lives were lost amongst the poorer passengers on the ship, many of them sailing to the new world to find better opportunities for themselves and their families. If the story of Titanic were produced as a work of fiction, people would have difficulty believing that such a widespread tragedy could happen.  Within that rope of broader story there are threads of smaller stories which weave together to produce a fascinating tale.

A Story of Tragedy

There are stories of heroism, cowardice, loyalty, leadership and tragedy. There are many reasons why people are drawn to the story of Titanic and want to find out more facts about how and why the Titanic was built, the pioneering engineering, the intricacies of her journey and the fatal errors which in hindsight seem so basic. Some people will be interested in facts on how Titanic was built, some will be more concerned with the stories of people who sailed on her.
Some people are fascinated by the discovery of the wreck and the artefacts which have been recovered. Whichever your particular interest in the Titanic, we want to put all these varying pieces of information into manageable categories of Titanic Facts for you and present the most interesting, the most up to date and in some cases, the most bizarre. Consider this as your “go to” site for Titanic facts, reference, explanation, exploration and trivia.

I feel guilty of my fascination for the titanic. Even tho the sea is a picture of beauty for most, it always cuts through me with it's devil like strength and mysterious , eery chill .
I had a natural urge ,two days ago , to want to go to the titanic museum, when I googled the info it told of the anniversary of 100 years . My subconscious is sorry for those people and children that had to suffer one of lifes no
st horrific tragedies but I'm grateful it has left a memory and historic artifacts to remember them by. they unknowingly have captured time and allowed it to stand still with such beauty , bravery and clarity that the story remains powerful for ever more.. . I'm thankful for my life as it is today and God bless those who were lost . Xxx

In the early 1960s I trained in Belfast as a Marine Radio Officer. Despite being only about one mile away from where she was constructed the only mention of Titanic was in relation to the standardisation of distress signals, radio watchkeeping requirements and what we called the '500 ton silence periods'. Well done Belfast for reclaiming this magnificent ship!

I am curious about the rescue portion of this great tragedy. Did all the life boats get rescued or did some get left behind or were not located during the rescue process?/

A reason of public fascination for the titanic story is that of symbolic signifiance: this boat with her passengers from all class of human society, fierly sailing on the ocean, then sinking, is an image of the human world in the actual period of history, i mean modern times. As the titanic sank with her passengers, humanity will sank also in the ocean of divine at the end of times, after the ignorance of modern mankind had come to an end; everybody knows that in the deepest of consciousness. So the vision of the film is also a kind of catharsys (another reason for people to like it, i mean Cameron's ).
Thank you for your site and information about the titanic story

Some years ago, I read the story--allegedly true--of one of the boys who, during the rivetting- of the great ship, fell between two huge steel plates, and was left to die because they were working to a strict time-schedule, and it would have been impossible to find and free him without undoing several days' work. Is this a true story, or just a legend?
