Linen Hall Library

The Linen Hall Library is a truly unique institution. Founded in 1788 the Library houses a comprehensive general selection of books along with some of the world’s most famous Irish literary collections, including the Northern Ireland Political Collection, which charts the history of the ‘Troubles’. If you’re searching for your roots we also have a vast collection of genealogical and heraldic material. Inhabiting a stunning Victorian linen warehouse, the building itself is worth a visit and regular tours are scheduled.

The Library is also a busy cultural centre which incorporates the Vertical Gallery exhibition space, coffee shop with sweeping views of Donegall Square, a gift shop with unique, high-quality gifts, and a schedule of events including author readings, performances, language classes, discussions and lectures.

Open free to the public, membership and donations are encouraged and bring lots of benefits.
