Titanic Journey

While more press interest had been heaped upon the maiden voyage of RMS Olympic, Titanic’s maiden voyage did receive its fair share of attention.  Many Americans who had completed their Grand Tour of Europe wanted to be on board the first run out of the world’s largest ship.  Yet she was not full to capacity.

Titanic's Launch & Route

Titanic's Route Titanic's Route

Titanic was launched at Harland & Wolff’s yard at Queen’s Island, Belfast Lough on May 31, 1911.  The ship then sailed from Southampton on April 10th, 1912, but called at Cherbourg in France and Queenstown (now Cobh) in Ireland to take on more passengers. She then began her maiden voyage proper across the Atlantic towards New York.

Iceberg

Four days into her journey, on the night of 14th April Titanic struck an iceberg in the North Atlantic and was so badly damaged that she survived for less than three hours before she sank. Two thirds of Titanic’s passengers and crew were lost because there were not enough lifeboats to rescue everyone on board.

Survivors were picked up from the lifeboats by the Carpathia and taken to New York. Over 1500 people drowned.

the titanic was beautiful and means a lot in my life! but i fell sorry for the itallians who were left to drawn allong with the other 1500 who drawned.i wish the titanic could still be around today! The crash of the Titanic was a horribbl thing and my thoughts go out to all of those who does on that "unsinkable ship". Sadly, of only the little who survived, our last survivor died not to long ago. Even though, I hope that the Titanic will still be remembered the same.Thank you for the help this website has given me!!!

Not sure if you mention Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada on your site as your site is new to me.
However, I was surprised to see there is no mention of Halifax on this page.
Ships from Halifax, Cable ships were hired by the owners of the Titanic to go to the site. This City was changed forever after the disaster. Bodies found and parts of the Titanic retrieved were brought here.
Three cemeteries here have graves of those who died that night. please refer to www.titanic.gov.ns.ca for more information. Thank you.

I wish I was on the Titanic, she looked beautiful and had many facilities on board. I could spend ages on her and wouldn't become bored! She will always be the best ship in my eyes. However the tragedy is also about the people who lost their lives, even the people who lived deserve some thought because no one deserved to go through this. I cannot imagine how people who couldn't get on a lifeboat felt, the men that helped their loved ones into a lifeboat and then watched them row into the distance must have been so brave. The women and children would have been so scared just like the men. Parents would have watched their children die and wouldn't be able to do anything about it. I cannot understand why the lifeboats were not full or why there wasn't more. As for the crew and everyone that worked on the Titanic at the time, they are a real credit and make you feel proud. They kept doing their job even though they knew the end was near. I do not however agree with locking people into a room whilst the ship was sinking leaving them with no chance of escaping. I don't know how the person that had the idea of so little lifeboats could live with themselves after this tragedy knowing that more lives could have been saved if they changed this at the last minute. I am 18 and live in East Yorkshire, as far as I know they are no connections that I know of in my area of Hull but I do know that I will remember the Titanic for the rest of my life!
